A foot scanner that helps prevent amputations
One in three people with diabetes develops foot ulcers. In one in ten cases, amputation follows. Early detection through temperature monitoring can prevent many of these outcomes, but current methods are too demanding for daily use.
Together with Leiden-based start-up Secuped, our engineers and medical device designers are developing a home monitor that makes daily foot screening as simple as standing on a device for 20 seconds. The system measures temperature across high-risk areas and automatically alerts both patient and podiatrist when intervention is needed.
Superellipse handles hardware development and medical certification. The project is co-funded by CrossRoads Vlaanderen-Nederland, an EFRO programme supporting cross-border health innovation.
